Terms & Conditions of Transport
This agreement is entered into between:
The Company:
Tailored Equine Transport & Services
and
The Client:
The individual responsible for booking the transport service, or any agent or representative acting on the client’s behalf with their authority. Where more than one client enters into this agreement, all parties shall be jointly and severally liable for any costs incurred.
1. Transport at Owner’s Risk
All equines are transported entirely at the client’s and/or owner’s risk. The client/owner remains fully responsible for their equine(s) at all times and is advised to ensure appropriate insurance cover is in place.
2. Transport Service
Tailored Equine Transport & Services agrees to provide transportation from the collection address supplied by the client to the delivery address supplied by the client.
3. Equipment & Belongings
A limited quantity of equipment or personal belongings may be transported at the Company’s discretion and only by prior arrangement, at no additional cost. All equipment is carried entirely at the client’s risk. The client remains responsible for any loss, damage, or insurance relating to such items.
4. Deposits & Payment
A non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total transport fee is required at the time of booking. The remaining balance must be paid no later than 24 hours prior to the agreed collection date and time.
5. Right to Cancel
The Company reserves the right to cancel or terminate the transport contract at any time.
6. Collection & Delivery Times
All collection and delivery times are estimates only and may be subject to delays or alterations due to environmental conditions, road conditions, traffic, or unforeseen circumstances.
The Company will make every reasonable effort to keep clients informed of any changes or delays. Verbal or physical abuse directed towards Company personnel will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
7. Veterinary Treatment During Transport
Any veterinary costs incurred during or in connection with the journey shall be the sole responsibility of the client/owner.
The Company reserves the right to contact a veterinary surgeon on behalf of the client/owner if:
- emergency veterinary attention is considered necessary; and
- the client/owner cannot be contacted.
8. Emergency Veterinary Intervention & Sedation
The Company reserves the right to seek veterinary assistance where an equine displays behaviour or distress that, in the Company’s opinion, presents a risk to:
- itself,
- the vehicle,
- Company personnel, or
- other road users.
Where necessary, veterinary intervention, including sedation, may be authorised after all other reasonable methods of resolution have been exhausted.
Every effort will be made to contact the client/owner beforehand. Any costs arising from such veterinary treatment shall remain the responsibility of the client/owner.
9. Fitness to Travel
The client/owner is responsible for ensuring that all equines presented for transport are fit, healthy, and suitable for travel, except where transport is being undertaken under veterinary advice for medical treatment.
Under the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Order 1997, the Company reserves the right to refuse transport if an equine is considered unfit for travel. In such cases, cancellation charges or other costs may still apply.
10. Infectious & Contagious Disease
The client/owner must ensure that any equine presented for transport is free from any known infectious or contagious disease and has not knowingly been exposed to such conditions.
The Company reserves the right to refuse transport where there is concern regarding infectious or contagious disease. Relevant costs may still be charged to the client.
11. Dangerous or Aggressive Behaviour
The Company reserves the right to refuse to transport or handle any equine that, in its opinion, displays dangerous, aggressive, or destructive behaviour.
Any injury, damage, loss, or expense resulting from such behaviour may be charged to the client/owner.
12. Termination of Journey
The Company reserves the right to terminate a journey and return the equine(s) to the original collection address if behaviour during transport presents a risk to:
- the equine(s),
- the vehicle,
- Company personnel, or
- other road users,
or otherwise prevents the safe continuation of the journey.
In such circumstances, the client will not be entitled to a refund.
13. Damage to Vehicle
The client may be held liable for the cost of repairing any damage caused by their equine(s) during transport which exceeds reasonable wear and tear.
14. Equine Passports
Under the Horse Passports (England) Regulations 2004, valid passports for all equines being transported must be provided to the transporter prior to travel and retained for the duration of the journey.
Failure to provide the required passport documentation may result in cancellation of transport, except in cases involving emergency veterinary treatment.
15. Loading Time
All transport quotations include up to 30 minutes of loading time.
Additional loading time, where available, will be charged at a rate of £15 per additional 30 minutes.
In the event of failed loading, transport charges may still apply.
16. Cancellation Policy
Journeys cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice prior to the scheduled collection time will incur a 100% cancellation fee.
17. Acceptance of Terms
By making a booking with Tailored Equine Transport & Services, the client confirms that they have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms & Conditions.
